The Chicago History Museum: My Wedding

August 11, 2014

Blog

In honor of our 2nd anniversary, I thought I would share my own wedding on our blog!

We had the best day celebrating with our family and friends. John and I knew right away that we wanted a Chicago wedding. Since we are both from the same home town, this may have been a surprise to our family and friends, however, we were really looking for an experience for our guests and to have our special day in our favorite city!

There are so many incredible reception locations in the city, but we knew The Chicago History Museum was the perfect venue for us. We fell in love with the beautiful chandelier in the Robinson Gallery, the history surrounding the space, the beautiful and elegant Chicago Room with black and white tile, and the stunning outdoor plaza. Plus, with so many out of town guests, it was the perfect location to show off the city that we both love!

After our ceremony at St. Clement Church, our guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres on the outdoor plaza of the museum while listening to music from John Sabal, a guitarist from Stitely Entertainment. They were then escorted to the Chicago Room for dinner in which the tables were assigned with classic Chicago inspired name cards. After a fabulous meal by Food for Thought catering, our guests enjoyed dancing the night away. The evening was topped off with Lou Malnati’s pizza and Chicago style hot-dogs!

I am so grateful for our amazing vendors and special thanks to LK Events for allowing me to truly enjoy my own wedding day! We were so fortunate to have all of our family and friends with us to celebrate and are so thankful for our parents support and the effort they put in to making our special day one we will never forget!

The Ritz Carlton Chicago: Melissa & Ryan

July 22, 2014

Blog

I had so much fun getting to know Melissa & Ryan this past year. They have been together for over 10 years and I was able to notice their strong relationship and foundation right away. It was very important that the wedding day portrayed their personalities and was an evening enjoyed by all – and that’s exactly what it was!

Melissa & Ryan got married on a beautiful spring day in May. After getting ready in a gorgeous suite at the Ritz Carlton Chicago, the bridal party made their way across Michigan Avenue to the Fourth Presbyterian Church where the ceremony was held. It was a beautiful ceremony from start to finish with personal touches along the way and a bagpiper recessional.

After the ceremony, the bridal party departed for photos around the city and the guests made their way over to the Ritz Carlton Chicago for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. The ballroom looked stunning with ivory linens, plenty of candle light, white, peach and blush floral, and accents of Tiffany blue (Melissa’s favorite color).

One of my favorite moments, and a moment I always look forward to on a wedding day, was revealing the ballroom to Melissa. Melissa cried with tears of joy and happiness!

Newberry Library Wedding: Alison and Kevin

May 14, 2014

Blog

I had so much fun working with Alison & Kevin in preparation for their big day. They are the sweetest couple! When I arrived to the hotel to meet the girls, everyone was so calm – an indication for a perfect wedding day to come! Ali looked stunning in her wedding dress, and we loved the neutral bridesmaid dresses. The bridal bouquet included beautiful blush and white peonies, ranunculus, astilbe, hydrangea and garden roses, and the bridesmaid bouquets added the perfect pop of color with peach juliet garden roses and muted coral peonies.

After a beautiful ceremony at St. Michael’s Church in Old Town, guests made their way over to Newberry Library to celebrate. Cocktail hour was in the lobby of the library, and guests enjoyed passed wine and hors d’ouevres while mingling throughout the galleries. Alison and Kevin made their grand entrance down the stunning staircase as guests cheered for the newly married couple.

Dinner and dancing took place in Ruggles Hall. The ballroom was absolutely stunning with champagne linens, mahogany chairs, and a mixture of high and low centerpieces that included gorgeous florals in peach, ivory, blush, and coral. The tables were accented in floating candles of various sizes and table names with significant meanings to the bride and groom. Ali and Kevin created adorable signs that looked like a library book explaining the significance behind each table name, which was a great way to personalize the evening.

Germania Place Wedding: Katie and Patrick

April 30, 2014

Blog

I was so honored and excited to plan Katie and Patrick’s wedding, especially because Katie and I have been best friends for over fourteen years, which made the planning process even more special. The couple met at Vanderbilt University, moved to Chicago post graduation, and were engaged just a few years later.

Katie and Patrick really wanted their wedding day to portray their personalities, relationship, and family traditions and that’s exactly what we did! Patrick is from New Orleans so incorporating some southern traditions was a must!

Katie and her wedding party got ready in the gorgeous Elizabeth Taylor Suite at the Public Hotel. Katie looked absolutely stunning in her wedding dress, which had an adorable custom bow in the back!

The ceremony took place at St. Michael’s Church in Old Town and the reception was at the Germania Place. Virginia Wolff Florist took Katie’s vision of spring elegance and made it a reality with her lush bouquet of peach David Austin roses and pink tulips for the bridesmaid bouquets.

After a beautiful ceremony, guests entered the Royal Ballroom where they enjoyed passed champagne and fried green tomato shooters. After the cocktail hour, guests were escorted to the Grand Ballroom for dinner and dancing. The tables were covered in candlelight, white hydrangeas, garden roses, stock, and lilies.

Greenlight (Rendezvous Music) stole the show and had guests up and dancing in no time! One of the many highlights from the wedding day were the food stations that Katie and Patrick designed with Kenmare Catering & Events. Each station was customized to represent the cities that Katie and Patrick met and grew up in. The first station was the Nashville “where they met” station which included braised pork shoulder and truffle mac and cheese. The Chicago “Katie’s hometown” station included a chef carving station, and the New Orleans “Patrick’s hometown” station had cajun barbecue shrimp and grits and a fried oyster bar – delicious!Germania Place Chicago Wedding J Detailed Events_0210

The wedding day was perfect from start to finish, and we wish Katie and Patrick many many years of love and happiness!

An Afternoon at Little Goat Kitchen

April 15, 2014

Blog

We had the pleasure of partnering with Little Goat Kitchen to showcase their beautiful event space with a sip, snack, and socialize event. The rustic decor, roof top with skyline views, and incredible food make it the perfect spot for an intimate wedding, bridal shower or luncheon, rehearsal dinner, cocktail party, wine or beer paired dinner, and farm dinners.

Chef Stephanie Izard loved cooking for guests in the comfort of her own home, which inspired the Little Goat private dining; a space that feels like home. Here are some photos from the event featuring floral and decor by Color & Company and sweet treats from Black Dog Gelato.

Arrowhead Golf Club Wedding: Nadine and Doug

February 12, 2014

Blog

Nadine is a great friend of mine from middle school and high school so I was so honored to be a part of her and Doug’s wedding. Nadine and Doug have one of my favorite “how did you meet” stories! They met at their siblings’ wedding two years before they got engaged – yes, Nadine’s sister is married to Doug’s brother! It was love at first sight.

Nadine and Doug live in California so all of the planning came together in just a few visits to Chicago. Nadine and Doug got married on a perfect summer day in June at Arrowhead Golf Club, much different than the weather we are experiencing right now! Nadine was extremely calm and relaxed all morning. One of my favorite moments from the wedding day was when Nadine and Doug had their first look under the beautiful willow tree at Arrowhead Golf ClubFotor0212110317

The ceremony was held outdoors right on the golf course. The ceremony decor included lush peonies in mason jars, a special touch as the peonies were straight from her grandmother’s garden and Nadine carried a beautiful bouquet in blue hydrangeas. Following the service, guests made their way up to the veranda for cocktail hour as we passed a signature cocktail created by the bride and groom.

Fotor021210578

In the ballroom, the guest tables were covered in navy blue linens with floral including garden roses, spray roses, and hydrangeas in pinks and greens, provided by Jenna at Avant Gardenia. The guests couldn’t help but notice the incredible wedding cake as they entered the room.

It was a beautiful wedding day from start to finish! Thank you Thomas Pham photography for capturing a photo of Nadine and me – so special to be able to share these moments with such great childhood friends. Congratulations Nadine and Doug!

Private Residence Wedding: Lauren and Ryan

December 18, 2013

Blog

Lauren and Ryan’s wedding was over a year ago but I still remember it like it was yesterday! Lauren and Ryan are dear friends of mine from Indiana University, and I was so honored and excited to be a part of their wedding day.

Lauren and Ryan’s wedding took place right on her grandparents’ property in Westfield, Indiana. Lauren always dreamed of having her wedding at this location so the personal ties made the wedding weekend even more special. Lauren and Ryan’s families showed so much love and support during the wedding planning process and wedding day itself. Lauren’s uncles designed the menu, and her father was up bright and early to be a part of the set-up process.

The ceremony took place outdoors right next to her grandparents’ home. Lauren pulled up to the ceremony site with her dad in her grandfather’s vintage red Lincoln. The look on Ryan’s face when he first laid eyes on his soon-to-be new wife was a moment I will never forget!

After the ceremony, guests gathered around the pool and enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before heading into the tent for dinner and dancing. The tent was absolutely stunning, decked out in elegant white, soft grays, and accents of peach and green.

It was a perfect wedding day from start to finish, and I wish Lauren and Ryan many, many years of love and happiness! I am so lucky and excited to be a part of the maid of honor’s wedding this August and the wedding of another bridesmaid’s brother in May!

The Metropolis Ballroom Wedding: Allison and Brian

Allison and Brian had a beautiful fall wedding in Allison’s hometown of Vernon Hills. They were married in Allison’s family church, St. Mary’s, and the reception was at the Metropolis Ballroom in Arlington Heights.

2013.10.12_Tiller-Nelson_Wedding

The Metropolis is a great wedding venue—with wooden floors, wooden beams, and beautiful outdoor veranda located right in the center of downtown Arlington Heights. Although it rained before and during the ceremony, it cleared up just in time for the bridal party to take photos at the Buffalo Creek Forest Preserve.

2013.10.12_Tiller-Nelson_WeddingThe guests were able to mingle and enjoy hors d’oeuvres in the Vail Room of The Metropolis where we had hung photos of Allison & Brian mixed in with some of their favorite quotes from country songs. This was a great personal touch.[/vc_column_text]

The reception room was full of fall elegance with ivory linens, chocolate brown napkins, candlelight, and floral in whites, blush, and greens with accents of chocolate brown and gold.

TVK Orchestra provided the entertainment for the evening. A solo pianist performed during cocktail hour and dinner and then the nine-piece orchestra took over for the dancing portion of the evening. The dance floor was definitely the place to be, and Tina with Artisan Events was there to capture every moment!

Congratulations Allison and Brian!
